Why Are Fancy Color Diamonds So Expensive?

Colorless diamonds are the most common diamonds, with clean interiors and no impurities, and are formed deep underground in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment. However, in the process of forming diamonds, some diamonds are disturbed by some trace chemical elements, affected by natural radiation, or the structure of the crystal itself changes, resulting in different colors we call – fancy color diamonds.

In general, colored diamonds are rarer than colorless diamonds, but rare diamonds are not necessarily more valuable. The value of colored diamonds is influenced by both rarity and people’s aesthetic factors.
For example: pure pink diamonds and blue diamonds are usually good products for museum collections, while black diamonds are often used for industrial grinding and cutting.

A diamond’s preference for different colors affects its value. The more yellow a white diamond is, the less valuable it is, while the higher the price of a pink or blue diamond, the stronger the color of a pink or blue diamond are more valuable.

The difference in values makes the 4C standard of colored diamonds even more important in color division. In the GIA International Identification grading System, a diamond whose colorimetric stone is darker than the Z color of a white diamond must be compared to be called a colored diamond.
Common colored diamonds are divided into nine levels: Faint, Very light, Light, Fancy light, Fancy, Fancy dark, Fancy intense, Fancy deep, Fancy vivid.

Some colored diamonds also have a very single color standard, for example: black diamonds have only one “colored black” level. Colored diamonds are rare, the color is very pleasing, and the value is naturally not very low.

    ❤️ Red Diamond
➡Color reason: During the formation of diamonds, the distortion of the crystal structure causes the diamond to appear red.
➡It is divided into blood diamonds and fuchsia diamonds by tone. Blood diamonds are as red as blood, more precious than gorgeous. Red diamonds are rare among colored diamonds, accounting for only about 0.01% of all colored diamonds.

    💗 Pink Diamond
➡Color reason: During the formation of diamonds, the distortion of the crystal structure causes the diamond to appear pink.
➡The formation of pink diamonds is similar to that of red diamonds, and pink diamonds account for only 5% of the total production of colored diamonds. Lighter pink or rose colored diamonds have an elegant and luxurious.

    💙 Blue Diamond
➡Color reason: During the formation of diamonds, trace amounts of boron are absorbed, and they are blue.
➡Blue diamonds account for only 05% of the total production of colored diamonds, which is also relatively rare. Blue has sky blue, dark blue points, pure color.

    💚 Green Diamond
➡Color reason: The crystal structure is changed by natural radiation.
➡The green color in the diamond varies, the depth is different, and the green is generally uniform and the tone is plain and elegant. Green diamonds are also rare.

    🧡 Orange Diamond
➡Color reason: Affected by the internal crystal structure of the diamond and trace element nitrogen, it appears orange.
➡Orange diamond is the potential stock of color diamond, relatively lack of attention. Many people think that orange diamonds and yellow diamonds belong to the same color system, but in fact, it is as rare as pink diamonds.

    💛 Yellow Diamond
➡Color reason: When the trace element nitrogen inside the diamond is nearly saturated, the color will turn yellow.
➡Among color diamonds, the yield of yellow diamonds is higher. 76% of all colored diamonds produced. Among them, the color of pure, bright yellow or golden color diamonds are called gold diamonds.

    💜 Purple Diamond
➡Color reason: During the formation of diamonds, the lattice structure is deformed.
➡The plastic deformation of diamond crystals produces purple, and the brighter the color, the more mysterious it is. As rare as a red diamond. The total annual global production is less than 100.

    🖤 Black Diamond
➡Color reason: the diamond contains dark inclusions or impurities too much, light can not penetrate resulting in black.
➡High quality, free of impurities, black diamonds with luster and fire color are unique and rare, so they are also included in the gem grade diamonds.

    🤎 Brown diamond
➡Color reason: Brown is formed by exposure to nitrogen during the formation process, and may also be related to lattice defects.
➡The output of coffee color is also more. Less popular, mostly used in industry. The popular color of coffee diamonds is cognac diamonds, which look like a combination of gold and flame, and are more expensive varieties.

    TIPS for Buying:

    1、Color:
The rarer the colored diamond, the higher the color grade and the higher the value; The stronger the color, the higher the saturation, the higher the value; The rare red series has the highest value, followed by the blue and green series, and the black series has the lowest value.

    2、 Clarity, Cutting, Weight
These three factors are not among the first considerations.
