    Let’s Get To Know “Spinel”

❤Spinel is a historic gemstone variety that is commonly found in igneous rocks, granitic pegmatites and metamorphic limestones. The name comes from two sources: one is derived from the Greek word “Spark”, which describes the bright reddish hue unique to spinel, and the other from the Latin word “Spina”, which refers to the Thorn, as in the shape of the spinel crystals (complete with octahedral shapes). Until the 18th century, rosy-red spinel was considered a type of ruby and was known as Balas Ruby, meaning ruby from Balascia, India, where it originally came from.

    ✅Spinel Colors
🔴Spinel is a large family, natural spinel contains a variety of different trace elements (e.g. chromium, iron, cobalt), which is why spinel has an abundance of colors 🌈. It can be considered one of the gemstones that has almost a full range of colors.

🔴Common colors found in spinel are pink, orange, red, blue, purple, black and colorless. Deep red is the best, followed by fuchsia, orange, light red and blue. When shopping observe and place the same color spinel or multiple color rows together for comparison, the brighter and more saturated the brighter the spinel, the higher the value.

🔴According to the color can be divided into many kinds of spinel: Jedi Spinel, Mahenggai Spinel, Hot Pink Spinel, Brilliant Pink Spinel, Purple Spinel, Green Spinel, Cobalt Spinel, Orange Spinel, Colorless Spinel and so on.

    • ✔ Jedi Spinel:
👉Typically used for spinels from Burma, naturally occurring colors, Vivid color grades, strong “neon”, no or very few dark areas. The fluorescence levels are Strong, Very Strong, Exceptional Strong, and the chromium content is much higher than the iron content.
The most popular color today is Jedi. Jedi is the king of red spinels and is the proprietary trade name for a highly saturated, high quality red spinel. It has a blazing red or pink hue and shines with a neon glow! Not all pink spinel can be called Jedi Spinel. It is a pink-red color that is red, pink and orange at the same time and in the right proportions and has a unique and extremely neon (electric, fluorescent) color. This red spinel has a very high chromium content, which gives the crystal a single, intense color like a neon sign in the night. In addition to this, there is superb fluorescence with very little dependence on light. Gemstones have no or very few dark areas. This usually applies to spinels from Burma, such as the Matcha, Mansing and Namia mines.
    • ✔ Exceptional jedi spinel:
👉EXCEPTIONAL JEDI SPINEL: Jedi who have achieved both EXCEPTIONAL STRONG fluorescence levels and VIBRANT-BRILLIANCE are rated EXCEPTIONAL JEDI SPINEL, which represents the best quality of Jedi spinel.
    • ✔ Hot Pink/ Exceptional Hot Pink:
👉Gemstones that can be commercially named Hot Pink/ Exceptional Hot Pink include Sapphire, Spinel, Tourmaline, and Lithium Pyrite. The color needs to be up to Vivid Pink /Vivid purplish Pink, which is more saturated and intense hot pink, to get the commercial name of Super Hot Pink.

    • ✔ Lavender color spinel
👉Lavender color is an attractive color that gives a mysterious and romantic feeling. Gemstones with lavender color include sapphire, spinel, tanzanite, and lithophane, with Vivid Violet/Vivid Purple/Vivid pinkish Purple.

    • ✔ Metallic Gray
👉”Metallic Gray” is a predominantly grey color, with minimal blue or purple tones, and applies to spinels of all origins, of natural origin, rated as gray/purplish gray.
    • ✔ Lotus color
👉For spinels of all origins, of natural origin, with a color rating of vivid orangy pink/vivid pinkish orange.

    • ✔Peacock Blue:
👉For spinel of all origins, color is of natural origin, color rating is vivid blue.

    ✅Clarity and cut
🔴Clarity: Inside the spinel, there are often mineral inclusions, mainly small spinel, magnetite, and sometimes rutile inclusions. Spinels with no visible inclusions are more valuable; the more inclusions there are, the lower the value of the stone.

🔴Cut: Gemstones are cut in a variety of shapes. Spinel is usually cut into cushion and oval shapes, and a good cut and proportioned cut will show off the sparkle of spinel.

    ✅Value of Spinel
🔴The value of spinel depends mainly on the color, transparency, and cutting process. Among them, red and blue spinels are the most precious, especially the cat’s eye spinels of superior quality, which are rare and beautiful. In the market, the price of spinel is rising year by year, and the collection value is self-evident.

    ✅How to choose a spinel
🔴Color: Choose your favorite color, red and blue spinels are especially valuable.
Transparency: Try to pick a spinel with good transparency, clear and transparent is the best.
🔴Cutting process: exquisite cutting process can fully demonstrate the charm of spinel, selection should pay attention to whether the cut is neat, whether the polishing is smooth.
🔴Size: The larger the size of the spinel, the higher the value. However, personal preference and wearing occasions should also be considered.

    ⚠Maintenance
🔎Regular cleaning: rinse with water and avoid contact with cosmetics, perfume, etc.
🔎Avoid impact: avoid colliding spinel with other hard objects to avoid damage.
🔎Keep away from high temperature: Do not expose spinel to high temperature to avoid fading or damage.
